Children Defying All Odds to Get Education in Ghana
School pupils walk 4 kilometers in scorchy and rainy weather to and fro School.
Tanviele community is about 19 kilometers from Tumu the Municipal capital town of the Sisaala East Municipal of the Upper West Region of Ghana.
Kassana community is 4 kilometers away from the Tanviele community and the nearest community with a basic school.
Children of school-going age will have to defy all odds to trek or walk to and fro school in the Kassana community.
Excruciatingly, the school pupils from 4 years and above walk in groups to and from school and sometimes get drenched by rain. They also get their skins burnt in the scorching sun during the peak of the dry season.
The situation caught the attention of an NGO through which bicycles wereprocureforr for elderly pupils to help convey the youth to and fro school. But as it goes on, the bicycles got broken down beyond maintenance.
The school pupils during the rainy season Sometimes get stranded at the other end of a broken bridge which gets overflows when there is a heavy downpour.
Despite all these odds some parents and children still strive for education. The state of deprivation in many communities in the Municipality makes it uneasy to access some basic social amenities such as healthcare, education, electricity, and others.
The school pupils in their appeal could get at least a tricycle to convey them to and fro school, some solar lanterns to aid night studies, and some raincoats.
